Hi to all families attending the BRAFF June 2009 Reunion in Door County.
Local Door County resident and BRAFF Mom, Leslie Hill has provided the following list of family-friendly "things to do" in the greater Door County area. Thought that some families might be looking for ideas on Friday or Sunday as they travel to/from the reunion gathering...or perhaps extending your vacation by a day so you can take in the attachment disorder presentation in Menasha on June 15 (which Deb Stary posted about). Anyway! without further rambling, here's the list from Leslie (thanks, Leslie!!)

I polled some of my colleagues and students, and here is what we came up with:
The Farm (highway 57 just north of Sturgeon Bay): especially great for families with younger kids, but my teenage students still like it! Lots of animals to feed and pet. Historic farm buildings, nice walking trail around the property
Cave Point County Park: One of the most beautiful spots in the county. Hiking and picnicking available. I wouldn’t recommend it for toddlers, though, as the trails are sometimes near the water’s edge
Whitefish Dunes State Park: Beautiful beach (but probably still too cold for swimming in mid-June); hiking trails, picnicking, special family events on weekends
Potawatomi State Park in Sturgeon Bay: picnicking, hiking, camping, fishing, canoe and kayak rental but no sandy beaches
Clark Lake: Small (warmer) lake just south of Whitefish Dunes SP. Small sand beach, shallow water ideal for families with younger kids.
Kangaroo Lake (off highway 57 south of Bailey’s Harbor): supposed to be some of the best inland fishing in the county
Johnson’s Fun Park in Fish Creek: mini-golf, batting cages, go-karts
Peninsula State Park: good for family bike rides. You can rent bikes or bring your own. Also golfing available.
Maritime Museum in Sturgeon Bay: lots of hands-on exhibits for the kids
Drive-in movies in Fish Creek
Chicago Fire Boat tours: 2-hour boat ride around the bay and ship canal in Sturgeon Bay
Hands On Art Studio in Fish Creek is a good rainy day activity. You can paint your own pottery or create a mosaic.
